Tue 12 Feb - Photographs above and Left - Lotofagoi (Lotus Eaters) Athina Arsenis' (Local Ithacan) Theatre Group, will be putting on a performance of Destination: Pig Planet on Ithaki on 23rd February after successful performances at the Alekton Theatre in Athens which saw over 1000 tickets sold. Before the play is taken on the road around Greece, Athina will be showcasing this play at the Cultural center in Vathy, presented by Forkys and starts at around 9pm. You can find out more about the theatre group here www.lotofagoi.wordpress.com. Athina sent through these photographs and by the looks of them, this will be another very inspiring and interesting play by her Theatre Group. Get along.

Right - Something that's not great to look at around the island is the building rubble. It would be nice to walk around without that as an eye-sore in some areas.

Right and Below Left - Exoghi in the north of the island looks very majestic when looking up at it from Platrithia. Cypress trees swoop down the mountain side to join the olive groves below, glimmering under the shade of silver on a sunny and bright day on Ithaki. The island is so amazingly green this winter, it just looks amazing. Waking up each day with lush views across valleys and toward the mountains with the Ionian sea always nearby, watching it as it changes through its shades of blue and green, ferries passing us by as they go to and fro from Italy... yes we really do live the idyllic life here on Ithaca, although just as elsewhere, we are also prone to forget where we are sometimes.
Locals should check their bulletin boards as it seems the Cinema is up and running again. Showing days are Saturday and Sunday. Films showing are The Last Legion, American Gangster, The Assassination of Jesse James, Charlie Wilsons' War, I am a Legend and Heartbreak Kid. 7 euro for adults, 4 for kids.

Above Right - Sheep take over Platrithia at the cross section of Yefyri. Lucky I'm not scared of sheep because they're coming straight for me. Eeek!

WEDNESDAY 13TH FEBRUARY - NATIONAL STRIKE TODAY. EVERYONE OUT INCLUDING FERRY.

Thu 14 Feb - Below - With the National Strike yesterday all of Greece came to a standstill. No planes coming in and no ferries. Luckily for some, there were some alternatives to get them to and from Sami in Cephalonia...even though it was a little bumpy.

Fri 15 Feb - With the ithaki baby boom over the past couple of years, and it seems it was not just a fad as some are back with seconds, the timing is just right for Kioni Boutique, Sentouky, to stock childrens wear this year. Gerti always has great style which I'm sure will be carried through to the new addition to her store.

Ithaca seems to be a popular Wedding location with 2 more big weddings coming to Ithaca this coming Season. The Ventouras family (Perth, Australia - Kioni) in July and the Canaris family (Perth, Australia - Kioni) in September. Ithaca will be shoulder deep in Aussie accents this year.

Sun 17 Feb - Right - Dramatic change in temperature yesterday with cold winds colliding over Greece from the direction of Scandanavia and Russia. Eastern Greece is under snow while high winds batter the coastline. Here on Ithaca its 0 C and windy, but the skies are blue and not a flake of snow anywhere.

The seas around the island are churning and heaving, a strange sight for Ithaki when most of the time the sea resembles glass, even through the winter months. Snow has again fallen on the mountain tops across the sea from us on the mainland. I haven't checked with the Port Authorities, but I can be pretty sure that the ferry didn't leave this morning. This weekend wave of bad weather will be followed by another wave on Monday. Who knows, Ithaki could see snow yet. Meanwhile everyone is rugging up and staying out of the chill which is biting today. The wind slashes across the face like a razor blade. It's been a couple of years since we've really had winter on Ithaca, so it's quite a shock to the system. On Ithaca we'll be spared the brunt of this bad weather front, but as snow piles up on the busy streets of Athens and is predicted to fall also in Crete, not everyone is as lucky as we are.
Winter on Ithaca

Wed 20 Feb - Left - It's about time we had some more well known faces from the south on the site. It's smiles all around from Epiharis and Aristotelis Kalkanis. If you think their faces are familiar, then you have probably eaten at their restaurant behind the Square in Vathy, Kalkanis. Lots of great reports from their customers and a winter favourite for the locals too.
After some freezing temps this past week, yesterday and today have warmed up again. It feel like Spring.
Passengers on Ithakis ferry were stuck again yesterday afternoon when the ferry door wouldn't close after preparing to depart from Cephalonia, and after that was repaired, wouldn't open once on Ithaki. Passengers were stuck until night while solutions to the problem wer being gathered. Apparently they forced them open for Ithacans to disembark. This door problem has happened the second time in a couple of months.
