Although the water in the bay wasn't over-reaching its boundaries, the wind was also relentless in Vathy. Girls struggled with their hair and skirts, while boys mustered their muscles to keep the flag poles in hand. Due to the weather, there weren't as many people at the parade as other years, but it didn't impact on the parade. Independence Day celebrations are deeply rooted in the community, old and young, and not much can hinder the pride Greeks have in their history.
