Just before Papoulaki, the sky opened up for a minute to rain and storm down on us. I thought for sure it would continue and that it would dampen this annual celebration for Ithaki's very own saint, but after the downpour, the skies cleared and became almost blue again. Papoulaki is a local celebration, attended mostly by northern Ithacans, although a few faces from the south did also pay their respects. On this day, the bones of Papoulaki are paraded down to Stavros church, Sotiros, from Ag. Barbara chapel, a little way above the northern center. Despite this being a small and local tribute and celebration of Papoulaki, it attracts major clergy to attend and perform the liturgy for this Saint.
