August 2014 - Thursday 21st - Probably the coolest August any of us have experienced on Ithaca and the windiest. Just when you think it's all settling down, in comes another cool breeze.
Still lots of people around, and as usual, August is beginning to show on the faces of the restraunteurs. Some work 16 - 18 hours a day with barely a break. That they still have the energy to be welcoming is a credit to them.
Sunday 24th - The weather has really gone up, or maybe just the wind has dies down these past few days, making it feel hotter, but anyway, it's been hot and still and feeling like August.
If you're up for a beach party today, then head along to Filiatro beach in the south of Ithaca for the last summer party of this season. Dj's Dimos and Christina will be supplying the musical entertainment, the rest is supplied by the sun and the sea. Of course you can get your cool beverages from the cantina/bar at the beach.
The rubbish that started to build up last week has vanished this week as things returned back to normal.
The new mayor, Mr. Stanitsas and his councillors are probably sorting through the rubble of the previous council as is usually the case when one leaves and another enters. We wish the new council all the best and hope they can fulfill their promises to the people of Ithaca.
Monday 25th - Now as we head to the end of August, the weather has decided to join us for Summer. Hot days, the sea finally warming up a bit and kids doing what they should be doing in summer, swimming and enjoying eachother's company having some water fun.
Wednesday 27th - As we edge toward the end of the BIG month of August, the weather is hot and full of summer haze, just how it should be for this time of year.
With September come the inevitable timetable changes for the ferry, and I was hoping to update everyone on what the new times will look like, but unfortunately, there's no info on it yet for the Killini - Ithaca route, our main route. Probably best to contact www.kefalonialines.com and ask them directly if you have travel plans, but are uncertain of the timetable. Would truly love to help, but without information I'm as in the dark as are you.
Thursday 28th - The wonderful weather continues, and although it's late August, there are still plenty of people around enjoying long days at the beach and on the waterside.
We headed down to Polis Bay to see how it's going, and by all accounts, it's going very, very well. Lot's of people happy to be on holiday on Ithaca.
Polis cantina, like the other cantinas around Ithaki (Marmaka, Filiatro, Cemetery beach and Gidaki) make a day at the beach an all 'round experience. With some great snacks and refreshments, you don't have to leave until you're absolutely ready.

At Polis beach you can also hire beach umbrellas and lounges, just ask Taki, and of course speed boats from Polis boat hire. Take a little trip over to Fiscardo in Kefalonia or find a secluded little swimming spot all to yourself.
There is also boat hire in Kioni. Just ask for George from Kioni Boat Hire, anyone in the village will point you in the right direction.
