It's been a long, long time since Ithacans have been able to celebrate any festival, let alone Sortiros, the Stavros Panaghiri. This festival runs over 2 days, 5th and 6th of August each year, except for the covid years. With all the other festivals cancelled due to fear of covid spreading, it was a breath of fresh air for Ithacans to let down their hair. Dr. Paxinos, who was one of the organizers, in his speech said, he will take the responsibility, but it was time for locals and visitors to have some fun. Being healthy involves more than just not being sick.
Some of the elderly stayed away this year, but still there was barely room to stand. Stavros square was packed full. The band played their hearts out. It's been awhile since we've seen them all on stage together, I believe they played til around 5am. All in all, a VERY successful and much appreciated night. I think too, Stavros made a bit of pocket money. A great night. Thanks to all who allowed it and then made it such a fun and successful festival.
