Marida Festival Sunday 6th October 2019

Traditionally the Marida Festival (Sardine Festival) is held on the 1st October. It marks the end of Summer and the beginning of the fishing season around the Ionian. In the morning it looked like rain, but it held off.

This year a private party financed the festival as the Stavros Community had cancelled the event due to financial concerns. Still, it didn't matter who put it on. It was a great day and a great time.

Ithaca's Dance Group in all the traditional costume was there to feature some folk dancing.

This is what it's all about. Marida. The tiny sardines fried up in a pan.

A great turn out, despite it being a week later than the usual annual event. Some touted today's Marida Festival as the best ever.

With many of the Summer businesses now closed, locals were free to let their hair down a bit to really enjoy the 2019 Marida Festival at Polis Beach under Stavros Ithaca Greece.
