Time to puff up your feathers. There are places to go and things to do on Ithaki this Season.
Wednesday 27th - More rain today, storms overnight and very unsettled weather through the day, but yesterday? Sunshine.

Tuesday 26th - Just because Summer is over doesn't mean that there isn't anything but olive picking going on on the island. There are concerts and acitivities organized over the winter.
Choir MODERN MUSIC FRIENDS
History
The Choir "Friends MODERN MUSIC was founded in 1985 and deals with all kinds of artistic choral music. Since 1998, the Choir collaborates with composer Mimis Plessas in the recording of new works. In 2000 and 2002 participated in honors events in the Athens Concert Hall and the Odeon for 50 years supply of Mimis Plessas the Greek song.
In 1999 the choir recorded the work of composer Christos Leondis' Make Freedom", presented at the Hall at a special concert organized by the Greek Parliament.
In 2000 the choir joined with the National Orchestra and Choir of ERT, in the presentation of CARMINA BURANA of the Carl Orff Concert Hall and the Odeon in Athens.
In recent years the Choir has won the following awards:
• Audience Award at Veszprém Hungary (2002)

If you're interested in dance classes and physical fitness than see the above flier. There are classes from Ballet & Hip Hop dance to Yoga and Pilates. Over the next 10 days or so there will be alot of political rallies as we head toward the Sunday 7th November Elections. There'll be more promises made that can't be kept and excuses put forward for not being able to keep them, but this is usual everywhere, not just here on Ithaki.

Right - Some locals have managed to get to their olive groves inbetween the rain, and have begun to pick for this Seasons olive oil.

After the heavy storms last night, the power went off of course. Luckily we were all tucked comfortably in our beds. We awoke to all the appliances turning on after the electricity came on again around 9am.

Ithaca is looking very lush and green this month as the ground soaks up all the rain we've been having.

Thursday 28th - As forecast, more rain this week. Yesterday the skies were quite dramatic as storms passed over on and off all day, but the sun isn't quitting. Patches across the mountains showed us that there is still hope for November to be a fine weather month. We've had a record amount of rain this year for October. Not since the 50s has it rained so much.
Below - X-Factor came to Ithaca a couple of weeks ago for George Levendis final selection of contestants. I don't know whether Ithaki has a mania for the show, but Mr. Levendis is definitely loved in this part of the world. He's been coming to ithaki since he was about 7 years old. The show had contestants walking through the various villages of the island to showcase our views, and had dinner at Hani Restaurant.
The publicity George Levendis has given Ithaki through his X-Factor visit here, couldn't be bought. In this time of economic crisis, every little bit helps to keep an island afloat, and although our little rock didn't suffer anywhere near as much as other touristic locations around Greece, publicising our beautiful island will only help to keep it a viable location for the discerning visitor to come.

Saturday 30th - Here we are at the end of October and the skies have finally cleared, leaving us with bright sunny days again. Yesterday and today are just brilliant. It is quite a bit cooler once the sun begins to set, but what else can we expect. It's winter. Right - Thursday afternoons rainbow marked the end of the wet spell.

Don't forget tonight is the special performance by the Modern Music Choir at the Cultural Center in Vathy. Doors open around 8.30pm

Last night the lights went off again. No wind, no rain, no storms. Just a sudden black-out that could not be explained by DEH because no one answers the phone. Nice. Another PC fan and dvd player bite the dust... and they want to increase the electricity charges?

Sunday 31st - Above - The Modern Music Choir brought to Ithaki by the En Xoro Group (Girls Left). The choir made for a good night out in Vathy last night, singing a selection of songs from modern to traditional.

Sunny skies again over the past few days with more sunshine ahead. A mild week coming up for the first week in November. Tonight Rementzo has its last night until next Season. This Frikes restaurant joins others who have closed their doors for the winter. The Mills in Kioni had their last night yesterday. Looks like Symposium and Piperato in Frikes and Yefuri in Platrithia, will be the only open places to eat over the next few months. Back to the bins for the cats.
So here we go into November. The clocks were turned back last night. Some of us remembered, some didn't. From now there'll be longer nights again and much shorter days, so get cosy infront of the fire and settle back. Happy Winter everyone.
