June 2019

Saturday 1st

Another weather forecast that isn't too great ahead for this weekend, but let's hope the bureau is wrong. We're in need of our USUAL weather here.

Above - Kioni. Below - Frikes. Bursts of activity settled by a last day of May, calm.

Sunday 2nd - Storms forecast for today, but they won't last. As we head into next week we're finally looking at some high 20's temperatures to show us that Summer has not forgotten Ithaca. Meanwhile here are plenty of images from around the island to remind those who have been to Ithaki how beautiful it is and those who haven't, just how beautiful it is!

Above - Works continue on the port at Piso Aetos. Doesn't look like it will be completed by the time our tourist influx starts, but then you never know.

Above - Ithaca highway?

Tuesday 4th - There's no doubt about it, the weather is strange this year, but I guess it's not only here that notices the difference. Once upon a time, come June, no one ever talked about the weather because it was always fine, warm and a blue sky.

Above - Cafe del sol has new owners, so drop in and say hi. They'll be happy to see you.

Ithaca is catching up with the times with more ATMs installed to make it easier for visitors to cash up. Euronet being the latest. You can use this ATM at Karamela Cafe along the bay.

Wednesday 5th - A bit overcast again yesterday, but with some patches of sunshine.

Above - There are more sheep for neighbours than people. Below - On the cliff-side of Afales.

Above - Exploring around Anoghi always brings up some treasures. This dwelling is very cute.

Summer on Ithaca Greece

Saturday 1st

Yesterday started a bit grey, but it wasn't too long before the sun burst through they clouds to make for a nice last day of Spring.

Sunday 2nd - Below - Polis Bay still looking very green and lush after a wet winter.

Below - Perahori, the village just above Ithaca's capital of Vathy, has such stunning and expansive views. To think it's less than a 5 minute drive down to the waterside.

Below - Eary evening conversations in Frikes.

Above - The country roads that make up a web of wonderful walking tracks around Ithaca Greece.

Tuesday 4th - Lots of people coming from the Flotillas and independent yachts at the moment. I would imagine they make up the majority of the people in the restaurants and streets. Vathy Harbour was full of yachts yesterday, dotted around the bay and docked in harbourside.

Wednesday 5th - Who doesn't feel like a refreshing, colourful and fun cocktail once the calendar hits Summer.

Above - I've been scouring the island for photos. It becomes quite a challenge after so many years, Ithaki is small afterall, but thanks to the varying light, the scenery always exposes something new.
