June 2020

Monday 1st

It's certainly nice to see Ithaca looking a little more like Ithaca. It's been a sad year so far, and with still so much uncertainty and literal confusion about all the data and more data, leaving humans in the scrap heap of the deleted numbers, a hope for a successful Summer, albeit limited by restrictions, let's us all pop our heads out of the darkness and back into the sunshine again.

Tuesday 2nd - Below - The heat mist over Exoghi floats around the mountain tops..

Above - Our beautiful capital of Vathy.

Above - The Frikes gang are ready for the 2020 Season, and although many of you won't be able to come this year, we hope to keep you entertained and up to date with what's going on around the island.

Above - Spavento Cafe Bar has it's usual spectacular colour on.

Opening weekend was a bit quiet in Kioni, but there too, the business community is open and waiting for whoever will come, for the moment, mostly locals, but later visitors from around 28 countries that have been cleared to come into Greece.

Thursday 4th - I know there are some very scared locals anticipating the worst with restrictions being lifted, but I hope we can all get some enjoyment out of the Summer season despite all the fear.

Above and Below - The stunning views over Afales Bay in the north of Ithaca. The road to Exoghi gives some of the best aspects of this blue Ionian sea which looks north toward Lefkada.

Above - The very friendly village of Stavros, the northern center.

Below - Kioni.

Above - If you're up for a game of soccer, you can head to the Vathy square near the kiosk.

Below - Late in the afternoon, the most glorious yellow light falls onto Polis Bay and it's folliage around the coast.

Above - Frikes Bay. What an unusual sight to see. Usually the bays around the island are already filling up with flotillas. This year it's a very late start.

Saturday 6th - Below - Afales Bay under the late day sun.

Above - Kioni and Raxi from Agalaio at dusk.

Monday 8th - A bit of rain last week, well actually alot, but the next day it was Summer again and with people out and about, it's starting to feel that way too.

Above - Yianni from Odysseas Sea Taxi and Stathi from the Vathy laundromat Easywash enjoying a cup of coffee. It's certainly nice to see faces not filled with terror.

Above - It's back to usual at Rementzo Restaurant in Frikes. Locals getting together out the front.

Below - Avra Restaurant had a bus full of visitors descend on them for lunch. Where they are from, who knows.

Above - Another new Gift shop opens in Kioni, right next to Avra Restaurant.

Above - Cemetry beach in the far north of Ithaca.

Summertime on Ithaca Greece

Monday 1st

For the early part of the Season, some notable countries have been excluded from being able to visit Ithaca, France and Britain are two of those countries. We will miss our English and French friends. Hopefully the restriction will be lifted sooner rather than later for you.

Tuesday 2nd

Above - The Avra gang are ready.

Above - Taki, the Polis Beach manager, hopefully this year too.

Below - Spavento Cafe Bar looking out to Kioni Bay. Always stunning.

Above - One lone yacht sailed into Kioni bay. A vast difference from other years, when the bay would already be filling with private yachts and flotillas.

Thursday 4th - With updated travel information from the Greek Government in regard to who can and who can't come to Greece, the government has changed it's mind and is letting in those countries not on the 'SAFE' list with some stricter regulations. So, the British are coming. Before you do though, check with the Greek consulate in your country for all the details. There is a 7 day self isolation involved as well as testing and being monitored.

Saturday 6th - Below - Looking across to Kefalonia across the Strait from Lefki.

Above - Afales Bay looking north to Lefkada.

Monday 8th - There are still many businesses that haven't opened, and some may even stay closed for the entire season, meaning there'll be lots of financial struggles again for the country that had been so ravaged by Austerity for 10 years. Would be nice to have had a break from stress.

Above - Ooh, how did they get in?
