What's New On Ithaca Greece
March 2024
Friday 1st - Wishing everyone a great start to Springtime and a new month. Spring is definitely in the air.
Monday 4th - As we head toward Carnival time, there'll be quite a few events around the island. The weather seems fine from here on with undoubtedly a few blips here and there. It is Spring afterall and the rain must fall.
Tuesday 5th - The rain is back.
Thursday 7th - Fine weather. It really feels like Spring now. Even with temperatures in the mid teens, the sun feels alot warmer. Below - View to Raxi, Tsitsimida, Krouvoulia and beyond to the inlet of Frikes.
Friday 8th - Yesterday was Tsiknopempti (Burnt Thursday) a pre-Greek Easter celebration. We'll have some pics of it soon. Meanwhile, some views across Ithaca.
Tsiknopempti celebrations, despite some drizzle early on, were not dampened in the slightest. Kefi was high from the south island to the north and everywhere inbetween. Click Here or on photograph below for some more pics.
Sunday 10th - Below - Meropi, who you might remember from Symposium Restaurant in Frikes and then Ithaki Restaurant in Stavros, has a new venture, Mezepolion in Stavros.
Monday 11th - It's that time of year again. Carnival celebrations all over. On Saturday night, Forkys, Ithaca's Theatre Group, held it's annual party at the Cultural Center in Vathy. It's a big annual bash that locals and visitors from all over come to enjoy. To get a taste of the fun had CLICK HERE or on photograph below.
Wednesday 13th - Below - A very different look to Frikes now with all the tents gone along the seaside. Summer will be shaded now by umbrellas. What an expense for the businesses having lost the money spent on the permanent tents, now on umbrellas that won't fly and injure anyone with a gust of wind.
It's Spring! Lovely. The forecast coldest winter never happened, instead it was the mildest winter in some time and it's seemlessly moved into Spring.
Above - After the death of the owner of the Frikes Petrol station, petrol needed to be sourced from Vathy. It's nice to have it working again now so as not to waste half the petrol you bought on traveling back and forth to the petrol station in Vathy.

Friday 1st
Monday 4th
Tuesday 5th - Our trusty Astakos Ferry. Running all year around unless the weather is really bad or it breaks down.
Thursday 7th - Below - A winter viiew to Cemetry beach outside of Kioni.
Friday 8th - Small Business and especially restaurants along the baysides get another hit in the diminishing pocket with the enforcement of the NO Canope law. No reimbursement for the money spent on building them, getting permits for them, paying rates for them. Greece and especially the many island of Greece do not fit into the cookie cutter plans of the EU, yet squeezing a square peg into a round hole is enforced, not matter how devastating the pain. Below - Frikes and Kioni returned to cement.
Sunday 10th - Below - The new Mezepolion in STavros. Meze in Greece is like Tappas in Spain.
Wednesday 13th
Below - Mylos Bar in Vathy is having a party. Want to dance? Then get along tomorrow night.
