February 2020

Friday 14th - So many signs of Spring, almost 2 months early.

Saturday 15th - Quite a mild and sunny day again.

Above - Afales views. Below Vathy views.

Above - Kioni views.

Monday 17th - Although it was a brilliant weather day yesterday, somehow it doesn't seem right at all for the temperatures to be so mild for this time of year. It's like Spring is coming over a month early. Below - Afales Bay.

Tuesday 18th - Yes, looks like Spring!

Above - Just as it was.

Wednesday 19th - So much happening over the next couple of weeks with Carnival time starting last Sunday. Click Here or on photo below for some pics of the party to start celebrations off.

Below - So many great old buildings left to ruin around the island.

Friday 21st - Yesterday was Tsiknopempti, some photos coming soon on that. Vathy and Anoghi were cancelled due to rain, so Kioni got all the action for this Greek celebration day.

Saturday 22nd - Last Thursday Ithaca Greece celebrated Tsiknopempti. The celebrations were supposed to be in Vathy and Anoghi, but were cancelled due to rain, so we headed to Kioni, where the old school gave enough cover from the weather for most. Click Here or on photo below for more pics.

Above - Looking across to Ithaca's big sister island, Kefalonia, where bad weather begins to threaten.

Monday 24th - We didn't get to the parties thanks to the flu, but by all accounts, they were all a big success. Lots of fun, colour and craziness, unlike the weather these past few days.

Thursday 27th - Below - The Mentor Hotel looks quiet and peaceful now, but on Sunday 1st March, it's going to explode with music and colour as the paraded gather infront of the hotel to perform their Carnival specials. If you're lucky enough, you can get a balcony view. Each year the Mentor gives over it's premises for the Carnival celebrations on Ithaca.

Friday 28th - If you haven't had your head buried in the sand as I have, you'll have heard that GREECE HAS CANCELLED CARNIVAL!!!!!!! Yes, it's ALL cancelled due to the fear that the Corona Virus will be spread. So ok, I can understand that could be, COULD, be a concern for cities, but for Vathy? When all the people going to the Carnival see eachother in the village Squares every day, the kids at school every day?? I'm sure the Council probably feels the same, but as the law has come down from above, no, not heaven, but probably EU, there is no room for exceptions. WHAT A SHAME!!!

Winter on Ithaca Greece

Friday 14th

Below - The old general store in Ag. Sarantas is sorely missed by the locals. It's an old building that needs some love to make it safe to be in. It's a shame to let it disintegrate.

Above - The bell tolls once every half hour and the hours on every hour at Taxiarchis.

Saturday 15th - Already half way through February. It will be Carnival soon. 1st March to be exactl.

Monday 17th - The parties are on their way through this the 2020 Carnival Season. Below are just a couple, there will be many more than this. We have Forky's party on the 22nd of February at the Cultural Center in Vathy. It's always a blast. Ithaki's Theatre Group know how to put on a Carnival Party.

On February 29th, there is a party in Stavros at the Community Center.

Tuesday 18th - You just never know what you'll find in an old abandoned house.

Wednesday 19th - Get your party shoes on and wet those taste buds. Tsiknopempti is coming.

Friday 21st - Lush and Green, that's how Ithaca Greece has shaped up after this winter.

Saturday 22nd

Monday 24th - Don't forget Carnival coming up this Sunday.

Thursday 27th - Below - Fanis Livanis from the Mentor Family.

Above - It's nearly Carnival time on Ithaca. Boys, get out those sequined frocks you love so much this time of year! It's going to be great fun.
