Sunday16th

Rainy day yesterday, but sun is on its way again.

Above - Cemetary beach (Filiatro) in Kioni.

Tuesday 18th - Spring brought some heavy rain a couple of days ago, but it's all sunshine again now. Nights are still quite a bit chilly.

Above - Stavros. Below - Platrithias

It's all starting to look like Ithaca again although we hear alot of fear in the streets still as some worry that tourism will bring back C.

Above - Krouvoulia 1 has had a facelift. New steps and a seating area for shade. Below - a birdseye view of Afales taken from the road to Exoghi in the north of Ithaki.

Above - Platrithia.

Thursday 20th - A little overcast today, but not so much that there's no sunshine, there is. Despite Athens having high 20 and low 30's in temps, Ithaki is still a little chilly, especially at night. We're not throwing off our jackets just yet. Below - Afales view from Exoghi.

Above - This used to be the local Ag. Sarantas shop. It's a shame it's left uninhabited. It doesn't take long for an old building like this to ruin.

Above - Krouvoulia No. 2 beach.

Saturday 22nd - The 2021 Unification ceremony was very unattended, despite covid restrictions having been lifted quite significantly with no curfew or sending sms messages for permission to leave the house, but the fear seems to be higher than before. I hope the governement and science community start to allay these fears as most have been fully vaccinated or have antibodies. Click here or below for just a few pics.

Read open letter opposite. Christina Jackson has been training for the last 6 months to run 42 klm in the Geneva Marathon to raise money for the Ithacan Sailing Club. The Club is in need of 4 Lasers .( small one-design sailing dinghies ) for the training of young 14 to 17 year old Ithacans to compete against other aspiring sailors from around the country at the Greek Sailing Association .

The Geneva Marathon will be held on May the 30th in Geneva.

Christina will incur all the expenses for training, travel and participation in the Marathon. All donations will be allotted to the purchase of 4 lasers which the club is much in need of. Any donations would be most graciously received, no matter how big or small.

Wednesday 26th - Below - Vathy's old port area has been updated and beautified.

Thursday 27th - So good to see businesses opening up again, yachts sailing in, people in the streets. Below - Spavento Cafe Bar is part of the Kioni family.

Above - The Frikes gang ready to welcome locals and visitors. The village is open for business and most of all, fun times.

Above - Rementzo Restaurant and Odysseas Taverna in Frikes. Below - Margarita Cafe in Stavros.

Above - Avra Restaurant in Kioni.

Sunday 30th - Not much to tell you in regard to news from around the island. There are days when quite a few yachts sail in, but still lots of quiet days too. Days are fine and nights chilly. Below - Kioni.

Below - View to Kalivia, the quiet hutch outside Stavros with Roussano on the mountain behind.

Above - Polis Beach under the northern center of Stavros. Below - Platrithias with Afales bay and Lefkada island to the north.

For those wondering about the Aetos road situation, the landfill has almost been completed to bring the bypass road level with the old road. Hopefully it will be fully usable soon by all traffic.

Spring on Ithaca Greece

Sunday 16th

Tuesday 18th - Below - Don't despair, This was merely a blip on the weather map.

Above - The bell tower in Exoghi with Afales aqua below.

Thursday 20th - Below - View over north Ithaca from Exoghi.

Above - Kioni Bay. Some private yachts are beginning to dock in the harbours around Ithaca island, giving some peak into the future of Summer. The consensus seems to be that it will be a good season despite everything, albeit a late start.

Saturday 22nd - Christina Razou is raising money for the Ithaca youth sailing club. A really worthwhile effort on her part to further these talented and commited , sporty young people.

Below is an open letter from Christina.

I RUN FOR ITHACA SAILING CLUB
The Ithaca Sailing Club has been operating for over a decade and has provided many young aspiring Ithacquesiansailors the opportunity to live and learn the art and science of sailing as well as develop valuable discipline and life lessons.
One important aspect of their development is to compete against other aspiring sailors from around the country at Greek Sailing Association Regatas held at regular intervals throughout the year. However, presently the club only possesses 2 Laser boats for 6 aspiring and talented athletes aged from 14 to 17.
To address this shortfall, ideally the club would benefit enormously from the purchase of an additional 4 Lasers. Up until now.we have had to share. which means plenty of time sitting on shore waiting for a chance to develop one’s skills. Not an ideal situation, frustrating and at times demoralizing for our most talented athletes. And sometimes, if they can’t find a rental boat at the Regattas, they don’t compete at all.
In support of and to ameliorate costs of this purchase to the club, I have decided to run a full Marathon of 42km to raise funds for this most important investment in our future Ithacquesian Sailor’s development and training. To be specific. I will be running for the club on May the 30th in the Geneva Marathon.
I have been training for the past 6 months, running four times a week and recently up to 30km runs per training session. It has been arduous and has required an enormous amount of discipline and fortitude but, knowing it is being done for a good cause, makes it worthwhile.
Suffice to say all expenses associated with my training, travel to and participation in the Marathon will be covered by myself and all funds donated will be allotted to the purchase of these assets.
Any donations would be most graciously received, no matter how big nor small. So whether its 5 Euro from a 1000 people or 5000 Euro from one person, both will go a long way to securing the requisite equipment for our aspiring young Sailors. This investment will further ensure, encourage, inspire and continue Ulysses great love of the sea, sailing and adventure.
I shall be posting preparation updates and pictures during my Marathon attempt in Geneva. After successful completion of the Marathon, I shall post the banking particulars of the Club for donations to be received. In the interim, it would be great to get a pledge from anyone willing to donate for encouragement.
Thank you for your gracious support in this most challenging but important endeavor and please be so kind as to like this posting and pass on to as many friends and family as possible.
Yours sincerely,
Christina Rizou, Ithaca.

Monday 24th - ITHACA & KEFALONIA GEOPARK
Touch screens have been installed in the Community Hall of Anogi for free use by visitors who will now be able to find information about the geopark and the natural environment of our island in general, as well as rich photographic material.
The Municipality of Ithaca in collaboration with the President of the Community of Anoghi, Panos Moraitis, and the President of the Tourism Committee and Responsible Municipal Councilor for the Geopark, Konstantinos Karavias, have upgraded the municipal hall in Anoghi to make it more visitor friendly.
The creation of the Geopark of Kefalonia and Ithaca, in addition to raising awareness for the protection of the environment, geodiversity / biodiversity, also contributes greatly to the cultural and tourist development of both islands.
The project was carried out in collaboration with the Management Body of Ainos National Park within the framework of a program funded by the Ionian Islands Region, with the aim of including the Kefalonia and Ithaca Geopark in the global Unesco Geoparks.

Wednesday 26th - Below - The Venetian tower in Vathy.

Thursday 27th - Almost at the end of another month and quickly heading into Ithaki's Summer Season.

A message from Forkys, Ithaca's Theatre Group.

We intend to make the following events, if and when circumstances allow:
1. To present a play (comedy) by the end of August in the courtyard of the Boarding School.
2. To present a theatrical analogy dedicated to the 200 years of the Greek Revolution of 1821 in the Castle.
3. To have our summer party in Loutsa on July 31st.
4. To participate in the event that is under the auspices of PEDIN and the Municipality of Ithaca entitled Return to Ithaca on the subject of Photography in early September.
5. To show a movie every week in our hangout in the Workers' Homes.
6. To co-organize with the Municipality of Ithaca the 4th THERNON Short Film Festival at the beginning of August.
We ask for your active participation in our efforts and to actively help all the cultural and sports clubs of our island by attending what you can, because only then will we be able to stand on our own two feet again.

Sunday 30th - Just one more day of Spring and we officially head into Summer with the 1st of June literally just around the corner.
