July 2018

Tuesday 10th - After a shaky start, Summer is well and truly here. Blue skies, sunshine and warm seas. That's it now until at least the end of September, but usually also well into October.

Below - Exoghi with Afales below.

Below - Vathy Harbour looking beautiful, dotted with boats and yachts.

Above - Philanthropist and Ithacan, Spyros Paxinos and his wife Esther from Lefki.

Thursday 12th - Although it's summer and there's a pre-occupation with sun and beach, it's also football season and with England playing last night, everyone's thoughts were on the match between England and Croatia.

Above  - Golden sunset sky beyond Afales.

Above - Polis Bay. Below - Why is it that the biggest cars park in the narrowest parts of the road? With the extra traffic of Summer you'd think people might think, but no, it seems not.

Above - There was some dancing going on at Kanenas restaurant last night.

Below - At Margarita Cafe it was football all the way. The cheers really echoed through the village each time Croatia scored a goal or point. I'm talking out of my hair folicles as I know absolutely nothing about football!

Below at Tseligas, the cheering was contained.

Below - Delcious too, had the tele on for the football fans.

Above - It was no different at Kentro cafe. Wherever there was a screen, there were people watching the football.

Saturday 14th - Vathy during the day can get a little hot when hitting the pavement for work and chores, but early evening and night, it turns into a magical place lit under a golden sunset and then lights around the village and bay.

Ithaca Greece Summer Fun

Tuesday 10th

Above - Dexa Beach in the south of Ithaca. Blue Ribbon beach. It has a cantina and sun lounges under the shade of the olive trees.

Above - It always surprises me that people will camp in their campervans on the main street of Vathy without hesitation. Wash themselves in a parking space. I think it's quite clear that they wouldn't be able to do this in any other main street in any other city in the world.

With so many things changing and being modernized it's nice to know that you can still buy vegies, bread and fish from the back of a van as they travel around the island to those who can't get to the shops.

Now that the summer season is fully upon us, keep your eye on the Ithaki Calendar for all the events happening around the island. There's some exciting things on the cards. Ithaki Calendar.

Thursday 12th

Above - Polis Beach under the management of Taki, is doing very well these past couple of years.

Below - The Stavros Pharmacy has been a great help with medical advise as well as supplies, not only for the locals, but also for the visitors to the island.

Saturday 14th - Weekends are always the quietest time on the island. It's a time when the tour companies and flotillas have their changeovers, leaving the island to the locals and the independent travelers.
