Thursday 15th

The local mini market and cafe in Raxi has made quite a reputation for itself over the past few years. No longer just a local hangout, but also a favourite for Ithaca's visitors.

Above and Below - On these hot days, the best place to hang around is by the water on the beach, under the shade of a tree or umbrella.

Friday 16th - Hot and steamy would best describe Ithaca's weather right now. More tropical than Ionian. Below - The stunning view from Agnandio Apartments in Kioni.

Above - If this is a view you'd like, contact realestate@ithacagreece.com with 'A view I'd like' in the subject line.

Monday 19th - Below - Polis Bay marina for all the local fishing boats.

Wednesday 21st - After last years medicane wiped out Poli beach and the big fig tree that provided shade for everyone who wanted it, Taki, the beach manager invested in one of the biggest umbrellas on the island.

Summer on Ithaca Greece

Thursday 15th

New measures, and these have been mandated with high fines, were announced a couple of days ago. No standing at restaurants, cafe bars or venues, only seated patrons allowed. Mandatory vaccinations for all the public sector, plus any and all medical workers and facilities, funeral parlors and many more. Cinemas, entertainment venues, theatres etc, only the double vaccinated are allowed, again this is mandated. Restaurants and cafe bars will have chosen by today, whether they will cater for vaccinated or a mix of vaccinated and unvaccinated with tests for patrons and limited capacity for the businesses which choose a mixed patronage. There are many mandates and measures so if in doubt check with gov.gr or your embassy.

Friday 16th - Below - Vathy bay.

Above - View to Marmaka Beach.

Monday 19th - On Ithaca, we don't feel the sting of all the restrictions as much as other places around Greece. We feel a little protected from the harsh realities going on around us. The massive protests in Athens a few days ago, well, we only see what the news show us and that's not much, so we don't really know the actuality unless it's shown to us through social media or youtube. The mandates have raised up tens of thousands to protest against them as they have in France who has also taken up mandating vaccinations, segregation and restrictions for all the people who are not accepting of it.

With Mykonos locking down however, locals are more concerned about the possibilities that it could happen here, so heads are down, working hard, not thinking too much about any of the negatives and just getting on with business.

Above - Cave at Polis Bay. There are many naturally excavated caves around the island, worn through by wind and sea and the hands of time.

Wednesday 21st - Lots of people in Vathy. You'd never know we were in the midst of a pandemic.
