What's New On Ithaca Greece
June 2025
Sunday 1st - Welcome to another month on the wonderful island of Ithaca Greece. This lovely Sunday is looking very fine, both weather-wise and of course life-wise.
Tuesday 3rd - Below - Afternoon light over the north Ithacan village of Frikes. Yachts mooring for the night, the breezey air making a symhony of the masts and ripple.
Above - It mightn't be Rementzo anymore, but people still love to hang out at the newly managed restaurant Nostimon.
Above - Margarita Cafe is older than many of the generation on Ithaca. It's a north Ithaki hangout, not only for locals, but also for visitors, especially those Day Trippers who come over from Kefalonia on the buses.
Above - The rocky road from Anoghi to Kathara and beyond, winding it's way down to the main road which also likes to wind around the rugged rocks of Ithaca Greece. Below - It's the new and the old fire look out posts on top of Ithaca, overlooking the south island. It must be a very lonely position to hold, but so necessary and appreciated.
Above - The Moraiti family with it's sponsors put on a lovely 2 day festival in Anoghi with a dramatic reading on the 31st of June and a marathon on the 1st of July. For all the information and photographs of both events. CLICK HERE or on photograph above.
Thursday 5th - Below - Anoghi has over the past couple of years taken on a new lease of life with first time home buyers and second home buyers from abroad, choosing this village to start their adventure in with more affordable prices than those along the seaside. It boasts a rugged landscape, very different to that of the landscape below this mountain plateau and the rocks and monoliths of the area are spectacular.
Vathy, after the yachts depart in the morning and before the next flotillas sail in, is a quiet and picturesque little village instead of the buzzing capital it becomes once the late morning lull is over.
Below - Bus trippers take a coffee break at Margarita Cafe in Stavros.
Below - In Kioni, one of the most popular destinations for the visitors from abroad, becomes a sea of people when the day trippers come in by passenger boats from one of the other Ionian islands, but still, locals congregate wherever they meet up, even if in the middle of the road.

Tuesday 3rd - Really starting to feel like Summer. The cafes are filling up again during the day and at night, Ithaca is lit up like a Christmas tree.
Below - Yianni from Margarita Cafe, an Ithaki tradition.
Thursday 5th -
As the summer season begins on Ithaca, a wave of excitement and anticipation fills the air. For many locals, who've spent the quiet winter months in a slower rhythm, this marks a time of renewal and hope.
There’s also a deep sense of purpose behind the buzz. For those who run businesses, summer isn’t just a busy period — it’s a vital opportunity. With a season that’s relatively short, this is the time when many work tirelessly to secure their livelihood for the entire year.
So while we celebrate the beauty and energy that summer brings, it’s also important to recognize just how fragile life is on a small island in Greece.
